I believe that this is my most successful image because I feel that I was able to highlight female athleticism, similar to how Sam Taylor-Wood did. I feel that my image highlights the determination and strength that female athletes possess. The most challenging aspect of this assignment for me was emulating the photographer while not having the type of equipment that she clearly used. For example, the escape artist image was fun to emulate but it was difficult getting a similar effect without having things like suspension gear at my disposal. I know that there is not much I could have done to remedy this challenge, but I do think that it forced me to be creative in how I captured the images. Moving forward, I hope to continue being creative with the supplies and subjects I have at my disposal to create strong images.

Hi there Emma, I think the image you chose is a great photo. This picture immediately captures my interest with neat composition and in my opinion, bold subject matter. The primary interest would be that of the uniqueness of the figures. The positioning chosen by the photographer highlights the dynamics of each subject, the depth of field isolates the subjects and keeps them at the center of interest. Sharp focus captures the mood and bearing of the subjects. The contrast and exposure are well balanced, giving an imposing yet natural display in black and white. It evokes the feelings of strength and determination. Further perfection of the shot could be achieved if the photographer could use more softer lighting, adding more dimension and warmth to the mood without taking away the clarity from the subject.

I think that this is a great photo! You really captured the aesthetic of Sam Taylor-Wood. I think the black and white add to the drama of the photo and thus increasing its impact. I think to strengthen it you could have the subject doing something or interacting with something. Overall I think this is great work!
I think that this photo does a great job of conveying female athleticism. Using the black and white technique helped convey the tone better and made your photograph emulate Taylor-Wood. To strengthen the image, I would taking the photo from a low perspective to make the subject appear bigger.

I think this photo does a great job of emulating Taylor-Wood. The pose and demeanor of the subject does a good job of mimicking the atmosphere of the Taylor-Wood photo. I think the use of black and white also really fits this photo to bring attention to the athlete specifically.
Hi Emma! The photo you took looks really good! I think you match the attitude and feeling of the original photo very well. By using the black-and-white filter with a model in front of a white wall you were able to capture the shadows behind her that add a lot to the photo and really brings it all together! I think if you were a little more zoomed out to capture her whole stance it could show her in an athletic stance, which would connect back again with the original. Your other photos for this assignment look great as well! Nice job!

I think this photo is really cool. I think you did a great job emulating the feelings and ideas in the photo by Taylor-Wood without copying it exactly. It was smart to use a jersey to represent athleticism and making the photo black and white to match the original. I also think the lighting looks really cool. I think you could've even gone more contrasty in your photo since the original has very strong distinction between black and white. Great job with your photo!
Hello Emma! I really liked the emotions put into this photo. I feel that you effectively highlighted the emotions that come with female athleticism, and I think that the use of black and white goes very well with this photo as well. I think that adding a different perspective such as a low perspective could have created an even stronger image. In the image you were emulating, they use a low perspective to create a sense of feeling strong in my opinion. I think that by adding this slight change of perspective, the emotions felt in this image could have been even stronger. Overall, really well done!

Hi Emma! I really like the photo you took of the girl wearing a field hockey jersey! I love the black and white filter--it complements the photo very well. Both images you used highlighted female athleticism, which sends a very important message about feminism. I'm curious to know, did you have any other images you took for this project? Because I don't see them in the blog post. Other than that, I love the image and the message you're trying to get across.
